John 16:13-14
"But when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and making it known to you."

God hears us and God speaks to us! That is a fact that we must get into our innermost being. We serve a real living God who is not of our own making, and He is intimately concerned about every detail of our life. We need to be aware of that, especially when we are all alone.

I once heard a professor in one of my theology classes, comment about a time when he felt that his prayers were not being heard. He used the phrase, "When I prayed, it as if the heavens were brass." I have pondered his comment and find that it lacks Biblical support.

We have been given assurance that the Lord always hears our prayers. In Jeremiah 33:3 we have this great promise: "Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." That doesn't sound like heavens of brass, does it?

I have come to the conclusion that our prayers must be a personal conversation between us and the Lord. When we talk to God, we may not feel up to par physically or emotionally, but He never slumbers, sleeps, has a bad day, is pre-occupied or demonstrates any other human trait that blocks our communication.

If God always has His ear open to hear us when we call upon His name, why do we feel that our prayers are not being heard? I think I will make a list of possible conditions that cause us to feel that God does not hear us:

Holding grudges against someone
Having a critical spirit
Being greedy for the material things of the world, rather than eternal things
Not knowing God's Word
Not spending time with God in prayer and praise
Saying you love God with all your heart, but never taking time to worship with His people
Being preoccupied with emotional feelings rather than spiritual reality
Unconfessed sin in our life

Can you add things to this list? What is it in your life that takes priority away from time with God? Are you giving yourself to TV, sporting events, hunting, fishing, gardening, sewing, cooking - - - - on and on we go; but - - - "I'm just too busy to go to church, Bible study or prayer meeting."

Why doesn't God hear us? How would we know? We are so full of the things of this world that our spiritual ears are stuffed with the stuff of our own making. We need time alone with God on a regular basis to feel and sense His nearness. Then, and only then, will we KNOW HE HEARS! When He hears, HE SPEAKS! Listen to His voice. He has many wonderful things to reveal to us.

Blessings dear hearts. Walk with God today, trust Him completely, and be a blessing.
